Many companies have something that can only send email the old-fashioned way, with SMTP: a copier that scans to email, a form on the website, a legacy system that sends order confirmations. Today SMTP is closed in many places, and it is considered insecure.
The problem with an ordinary SMTP service
You can of course use an SMTP service. But then you generally have to allow emails from your domain to be sent from servers other than your own mail servers. That is a security risk in itself. And it isn't easy to set up and maintain so that you can see each printer on its own and control what may be sent, by whom and to whom.
How SmartHost works
SmartHost receives emails over SMTP from printers, older systems and existing software – and passes them on through your own mail servers with modern protocols, such as Microsoft's APIs.
- Rules for each device. The printer may only send to your own staff, for example, and the legacy system may only send with certain subject lines.
- Overview. You can see what each device sends, and users can easily spot when something goes wrong.
- No extra opening. Your domain doesn't have to allow sending from outside servers.
